The Jamaica Stock Exchange clawed back some of the loss on Friday from big jump in the volume and valued of shares that traded as advancing stocks outnumbered declining ones.
At the close, the All Jamaican Composite Index advanced 470.67 points to 346,460.26 and the JSE Index rose 428.84 points to close at 315,664.43. Market activities resulted in 25 securities trading including 2 in the US dollar market compared to 31 securities trading on Monday.
At the end of trading, the prices of 11 stocks rose, 8 declined and 5 traded unchanged. Trading in the main market ended with 15,627,490 units valued at $156,012,947, compared to 3,337,734 units valued at over $77,717,624 on Monday.
Trading resulted in an average of 679,456 units valued at an average of $6,783,172 for each security traded. In contrast to 128,374 units valued at an average of $2,989,139 on Monday. For the month to date an average of 252,350 shares valued at an average of $4,680,933 versus 223,710 shares valued at an average of $4,528,884 on Monday. July closed with an average of 169,022 units valued at $3,514,756, for each security traded.
The day’s volume was led by, Carreras with 10,188,347 units accounting for 65.20 percent of the traded volume, followed byJMMB Group 7.5% preference share with 1,840,000 units 11.8 percent of the day’s volume and Mayberry Jamaica Equities with 1,031,384 units and 6.6 percent of the main market volume.
Stocks with major price changes| Caribbean Cement fell $1.79 and finished at $45.31, trading 187,930 shares, Jamaica Producers finished trading 7,791 units at $17.60 after falling 40 cents, Jamaica Stock Exchange fell $1.25 trading 375,716 units in closing at $7, JMMB Group gained 70 cents and ended at $29, exchanging 225,800 shares, Sagicor Group gained 30 cents to closed at $38, with 180,565 shares, Sagicor Real Estate Fund dropped 60 cents to $12.90, with 58,770 shares.
Trading in the US dollar market closed with 54,232 units valued $10,459, as Margaritaville traded 10,175 shares and ended at 18 US cents Proven Investments trading 44,075 shares, gained 0.99 cent and closed at 20 US cents. The JSE USD Equities Index declined by 1.66 points to close at 157.90.
