Jamaican stocks surge in early trading

Trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange is off to spirited activity with sharply greater volumes as well as the number of securities changing hands. Trading lead to a new junior market high after clearing he 2,500 points level for the first time. Main market indices climbed sharply, after 75minutes of market activity.
Market activity resulted in 8 stocks falling while the prices of 14 securities rose. The leading volume trades in the market are, ICI int -15-11-16Barita Investments traded 107,628 shares at $4.20, Jamaica Stock Exchange had 86,100 shares down at $5.50, JMMB Group had 170,200 shares changing hands at $14, Kingston Wharves exchanged 40,000 units at $18.51, National Commercial Bank traded shares at 52,966 shares at $46.01 and Sagicor Group had 120,786 units trading at $24. In the junior market Caribbean Cream fell to $7 while trading 67,195 units, Consolidated Bakeries traded 200,000 shares and slipped to $2.20, Lasco Distributors had 50,282 units at $6.90, Lasco Manufacturing has so far traded 108,900 units at $4.90 and tTech trades 110,428 shares at $5.10.
The all Jamaica Composite Index jumped 1,571.91 points to 190,043.72, the Jamaica Stock Exchange Market Index climbed 1,405.58 points to 170,974.67, the Jamaica Stock Exchange combined index surged 1,587.17 points to close at 184,477.02 and the junior market index rose 27.61 points to a new high of 2,522.83.
At 10:45 am, a total of 30 securities traded, resulting in a volume of 1,416,958 shares changing hands carrying a value of $16,631,315 compared with only 153,140 units valued at just $1,460,514 on Monday. The average number of shares traded amount to 47,232 units up from just 10,209 units.
