Transjamaican Highway hit a record $10.05 in Thursday’s trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange, with a gain of 104 percent since the start of the year and contributed 17 million shares to the jump in the volume of stocks traded on Wednesday. Trading ended with the major indices of the Main Market, the Junior Market and the JSE USD Market rising. At the end of trading the prices of 48 shares rose, 40 declined and 23 remained firm.
At the end of the market activity, the JSE Combined Market Index gained 2,310.43 points to close at 375,296.88, at the same time the All Jamaican Composite Index gained 2,903.74 points to end at 442,178.92, the JSE Main Index popped 2,302.28 points to finish at 370,123.16, as the Junior Market Index advanced 15.21 points to end at 2,982.51 and the JSE USD Market Index popped up by 10.21 points to settle at 295.23.
At the close of trading, 53,455,526 shares were exchanged in all three markets, up from 29,152,701 units on Wednesday, with the value of stocks traded on the Junior and Main markets amounting to $314.86 million, down from $391.51 million on the previous day. Trading on the JSE USD market closed with an exchange of 1,055,001 shares for US$121,704 compared to 76,990 units at US$5,098 on Wednesday.
In Main Market activity, Transjamaican Highway led with 17.06 million shares, followed by Wigton Energy with 3.35 million stocks and Sagicor Select Manufacturing & Distribution Fund with 2.18 million units.
In Junior Market trading, Jamaican Teas led with 3.50 million shares, followed by Derrimon Trading with 3.14 million stocks and ONE on ONE Educational with 3.02 million units.
In Main Market ordinary share movements, among the top winners, Guardian Holdings rallied $5 to close at $360.00, Eppley Caribbean Property Fund increased $3.73 to $42.94, GraceKennedy rose $1.81 to finish at $75.81, Eppley gained $1.40 and ended at $33.40 and Kingston Properties rose $1.30 to finish at $11.00.
Among the top losers, Seprod declined $3 to finish at $74.00, Massy Holdings skidded $2.49 and ended at $70.51, General Accident fell $1.70 to $7.35, Proven Investments dropped $1.19 in closing at $9.20 and Mayberry Group declined by 85 cents to finish at $5.04.
In the preference segment, Jamaica Public Service 7% rose $2.83 to $39, Jamaica Public Service 9.5% climbed $340 to close at $2,240 and 138 Student Living preference share dipped $5 in closing at $228.
In the Junior Market, among the top winners, Mailpac Group rallied 50 cents to finish at $2.55, Jamaican Teas increased 25 cents and ended at $2.29, Derrimon Trading climbed 13 cents to end at $1.32, Lasco Financial gained 12 cents to close at $1.64 and Limners and Bards rose 9 cents to $1.19. Among the top losers, Knutsford Express dipped $1.51 in closing at $6.48, Cargo Handlers lost $1.50 to $16.25, Honey Bun shed 39 cents to close at $5.51, Access Financial dropped 29 cents and ended at $17.20 and Atlantic Hardware skidded 15 cents to finish at $1.15.
