Buoyant flows keep Jamaican$ stable

The Jamaican dollar gained a cent against the US dollar, gained value versus the Canadian dollar but slipped against the Pound Sterling, in Tuesday’s forex trading. Authorized dealers purchased the equivalent of US$38,385,284 versus US$55,527,854 on Monday, and the equivalent of US$39,434,800 was sold compared with US$54,984,714 on Monday.
FX sum -23-9-14In US dollar trading, dealers bought US$32,424,472 compared to US$49,027,325 on Monday. The buying rate for the US dollar gained 3 cents to $112.38 and US$34,668,805 was sold versus US$50,573,332 on Monday, the selling rate drifted a cent down to $112.68. The Canadian dollar buying rate is up 5 cents to $101.53 with dealers buying C$2,908,960 and selling C$2,940,061 at an average selling rate that slipped 70 cents to $102.16. The rate for buying the British Pound rose $1.07 to $182.51, for the purchase of £1,935,491, while £1,182,187 was sold, the selling rate climbed 63 cents to $183.96. Other currencies bought, amounted to the equivalent of US$189,326, while selling was for the equivalent of US$170,362.
Highs & Lows| The highest buying rate for the US FXHL 23-9-14dollar, fell 67 cents to $114. The lowest buying and the highest selling rates remained unchanged at $91.85 and $117.70 respectively and the lowest selling rate rose $18.15 to $110. The highest buying rate for the Canadian dollar lost 70 cents to $102.20, the lowest buying rate remained at $81.17. The highest selling rate fell 20 cents to $104.96. The lowest selling rate was unchanged at $97.80. The highest buying rate for the British Pound, rose 60 cents to $184.50, the lowest buying rate was unchanged at $146.29. The highest selling rate fell 19 cents to $188.40 and the lowest selling rate is up $17.64 to $176.25.

The equivalent of US$55,527,854 was bought versus US$35,748,353 on Friday, and the equivalent of US$54,984,714 was sold compared with US$30,621,902 on Friday.

The amount of funds trying to find a home over the next 6 months, jumped sharply to $1,050,907,900 that chased, the $400 million 182 days Treasury bills offered for September, compared to $745,290,300 in August.
Investors are clearly seeing a continuing trend of lower rates into the future, and moved their focus to the longer end of the Treasury bill spectrum and less so on the shorter term ones. The offer of 182 days duration, matures on March 20 next year, will generate an average interest rate yield of 7.99887 percent, down from 8.11578 percent in August, 8.21982 percent at the July’s auction and 8.36502 percent for the June issue, of the same duration. At the May Treasury bill auction, the rate came out at 8.932 percent.
The Treasury bill for the period Friday, September 19, maturing on Friday, December 19 this year, for the duration of 91 days, attracted bids of $641,904,600 (August $639,068,500 and July $732,981,900) for the $400,000,000 on offer. The average yield came out at 7.46952 percent, slightly up on the 7.46767 percent average rate out turn in August. The rate for the June issue was 7.65893 percent and 8.2 percent in May, for the Treasury bill of same duration.

Other currencies bought, amounted to the equivalent of US$786,506, while selling was for the equivalent of US$1,263,878.
