Kremi Rum crm The number of securities trading in the Junior Market, picked up today to 6, from very low levels previously, but with very low volume. At the close of trading, the price of 1 stock advanced and 1 declined, with a total volume trading was 30,562 units. The JSE Junior Market Index fell 2.73 points to close at 666.29.
At the close the market there only moderate interest in junior market stocks with no bids to buy 10 stocks and no offer to sell 7 out of the 24 listings in this market segment. There was only one stock with the bid that was higher than the last selling price but 4 stocks had offers that were lower.
Gains| Caribbean Cream the sole stock to gain in the junior market, traded 5,000 with a gain of 5 cents, to close at 70 cents.
Firm Trades| Stocks in the junior market that traded to close at the same price as the day before are, Dolphin Cove with 200 shares at $8, Lasco Distributors traded 2,300 units at $1.15 Lasco Financial 1,500 shares at $1 and Lasco Manufacturing managed to exchange 3,982 units at $1.
Declines| General Accident with 20,500 shares changing hands lost 1 cent to end at $1.58 is the only stock declining in the junior market at the end of trading.

Main Caribbean stock markets struggling

Wednesday was a case of low trading activity on the Jamaican stock market, with only 13 securities trading or about 19 percent of the listings. Thursday, it’s the turn of trading on the Trinidad Stock Exchange, with only 6 securities changing hands out of 36 listings, around 17 percent participation. The two markets reflect what is happening within the wider Caribbean region, with the vast number of territories mired in economic pressures, with low or no growth. Trinidad with its petro industry, has not been spared, with the stock market marking time for several months.

Jamaican$ strengthens against all 3 on Tuesday

The Jamaican dollar gained, against the three main currencies it regularly trades with, in Tuesday’s forex trading, as inflows remain buoyant. Authorized dealers purchased the equivalent of US$46,583,995, versus US$41,647,022 on Monday, and the equivalent of US$43,686,767 was sold compared with US$48,692,938 on Monday.

The Canadian dollar buying rate, climbed 35 cents to $99.05 with dealers buying C$1,052,935 and selling C$450,524 at an average selling rate that slipped 29 cents, to $101.01. The rate for buying the British Pound rose 59 cents to $181.62, for the purchase of £2,746,757, while £966,157 was sold, at $182.48 for a fall of 34 cents. Other currencies bought, amounted to the equivalent of US$172,782, while selling was for the equivalent of US$144,242.

The Jamaican dollar gained against the three main currencies it regularly trades with, in Monday’s forex trading. Authorized dealers purchased the equivalent of US$41,647,022 versus US$50,731,870 on Friday, and the equivalent of US$48,692,938 was sold compared with US$32,356,343 on Friday.

The Canadian dollar buying rate, fell 36 cents to $98.70 with dealers buying C$1,194,201 and selling C$768,096 at an average selling rate that slipped 9 cents, to $101.31. The rate for buying the British Pound rose 88 cents to $181.03, for the purchase of £1,779,286, while £577,599 was sold, at $182.82 for a fall of 92 cents. Other currencies bought, amounted to the equivalent of US$234,843, while selling was for the equivalent of US$208,343.
