Unlike last week Friday when only 8 securities traded after 75 minutes of the market’s opening, on Monday the number of stocks trading jumped to as 29 including 14 junior market stocks. Trading volume is a mere 477,223 units, with 6 stocks declining versus 11 rising.
Trading activity resulted in mixed fortunes for the indices with the main market one falling and the junior market increasing. The JSE Market Index fell 238.55 points to 97,379.22. The JSE All Jamaican Composite index gained 266.63 points to close at 107,782.81 and the JSE combined index lost 163.37 points to end at 100,482.09. The junior market gained just 6.80 point to close at 956.79.
The notable trades are Carreras trading at $50.30 with a gain of $1.30 but with only 1,000 shares, Jamaica Broilers with 2,000 units at $6.99 after jumping $1.39. From the junior market, Access made another big leap to $19 with a gain of $6 but with 13,840 units, Blue Power rose 70 cents to $13, Dolphin Cove gained 85 cents to $13, while 62,000 shares traded and Lasco Distributors was up 23 cents to $1.85 with 184,468 units.
Securities trading jump on Monday
JSE up Friday morning
There were only 8 securities trading after 90 minutes of the market’s opening, on Friday. Trading volume is a mere 279,185 units, with 2 stocks declining versus 5 rising as trading levels remain depressed with just about all results now in for the companies.
Trading activity resulted in the JSE Market Index rose 301.54 points to 98,698.01. The JSE All Jamaican Composite index gained 337.03 points to close at 108,139.13 and the JSE combined index put on 384.32 points to end at 100,713.16. The junior market gained just 11.04 point to close at 949.11.
The notable trades are Carreras with 191,096 shares with the price slipping 50 cents $49 and Desnoes & Geddes with 54,909 units at $6.90.
JSE drops Monday Morning
The Jamaica Stock market made moderate losses in the Monday morning session, at 11:15 am. In the process the All Jamaica Index trades at 111,329.50 having fallen by 286.48 points, JSE Market Index declined 256.31 points to 100,552.36. The combined index fell 217.09 points to be at 104,146.72 and the junior market index trades at 1,031.09, having gained 2.71 points.
Carreras dropped $1.50 to $50 with 84,690 shares, Gleaner Company traded 61,465 shares and fell 41 cents to $2.30. JMMB Group traded up to $7.99 with the company reporting strong increase in profit for the first quarter and Scotia Investments traded 9,157 units with decline of 69 cents to $27.30.
A total of 23 securities with a volume of only 865,541 units have traded with 10 stocks declining versus 5 that that rose. Trading saw 6 securities in the junior market changing hands with General Accident falling 14 cents in response to poor second quarter results.
Falling prices dominate with 15 down
TheJSE Market Index lost just 3.39 points to 96,596.51, the JSE All Jamaican Composite index fell 3.79 points to close at 108,907.87 and the JSE combined index gained 28.63 points to end at 99,293.77.
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, in the main and junior markets, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator shows 19 stocks with bids higher than their last selling prices and 7 with offers that were lower, an indication that the number of stocks likely to gain on Wednesday should outnumber the ones declining.
In trading, Cable & Wireless put on 2 cents with 431,297 units changing hands to close at 46 cents. Caribbean Cement rose 1 cent while trading 121,350 shares at $5, Carreras gained 28 cents in trading 1,341,078 to end at $48.35, with NCB Capital Market s being the main broker selling and Sagicor Investments the main broker buying. Grace Kennedy suffered a decline by 40 cents with 8,919 shares changing hands at $63.50, Hardware & Lumber traded 50,000 shares at $18, with just one trade. Jamaica Broilers slipped 30 cents with 23,654 shares trading to close at $5.20, followed by Kingston Wharves that fell 15 cents to $6.40 with only 725 units trading, National Commercial Bank traded 528,170 units to close at $29.46 down from the last traded on Monday of $30, as the price slipped 54 cents. Sagicor Group fell 30 cents to $12.30 with 94,210 shares changing hands. The price of Sagicor Real Estate Fund rose 10 cents, with 42,375 shares changing hands, to end at $7.70. Scotia Investments fell 72 cents as 25,291 shares traded to close at $26.28 and Proven Investments traded 595,502 shares at 21 US cents, down from 21.05 US cents on Monday, after 467,745 units were traded in the morning session, at 22 US cents.

Jamaica Broilers traded 250,000 shares at $5.50 after shedding 25 cents, Jamaica Stock Exchange traded 9,331 shares to close unchanged at $6.35, JMMB Group closed with 23,587 shares changing hands at $7.45 for a 15 rise, Mayberry Investments had 11,195 units changing hands at $2.88, National Commercial Bank traded 48,527 units to close at $30, after gaining 50 cents. Pulse Investments had 306,000 shares trading at a 52 weeks’ high of 55 cents, to record a gain of 10 cents. Radio Jamaica traded 25,185 stocks units with a loss of 1 cent, to close at $3, Sagicor Group traded 776,521 shares to close at a 52 weeks’ high of $12.60, after putting on 54 cents, Scotia Group ended with 14,717 shares trading unchanged at $23.10.
