JSE Majors drops 26% for 2020

At the close, the JSE All Jamaican Composite Index tumbled 12,289.30 points to close at 412,202.55, following 10,340.57 points fall on Monday as ten stocks ended at 52 weeks closing lows and one traded at an intraday low. Wednesday decline brings to the loss for the year to date to 26 percent.
The JSE Market Index declined by 11,129.60 points to 375,741.83 and the JSE Financial Index lost 1.10 points to 104.30 and is down 24 percent for the year to date.
The market closed with 45 securities changing hands in the Main and US dollar markets with the prices of 13 stocks advancing, 26 stocks declining, with six securities trading firm. The JSE Main Market activity ended with 41 securities accounting for 28,855,556 units valued at $738,643,824 in contrast to 18,310,178 units valued at $212,273,602 from 40 securities on Tuesday.
Barita Investments led trading with 9.4 million shares for 32.6 percent of total volume. Wigton Windfarm followed, with 8.2 million units for 28.5 percent of the day’s trade as the stock closed at a 52 weeks’ low of 51 cents and Sagicor Select Financial Fund with 2.4 million units for 8.3 percent of the market’s volume. Other stocks trading more than one million units were QWI Investments with 1.2 million units and Supreme Ventures with 1.5 million shares.
The Market closed with an average of 703,794 units valued at an average of $18,015,703 for each security traded, in contrast to 457,754 units valued at an average of $5,306,840 on Tuesday. The average volume and value for the month to date amount to 711,658 units valued at $6,110,326 for each security changing hands compared to 712,275 units valued at $5,099,725 for each security traded. Trading in February resulted in an average of 624,731 units valued at $3,239,665 for each security. 
IC bid-offer Indicator| At the end of trading, the Investor’s Choice bid-offer indicator reading shows eleven stocks ending with bids higher than their last selling prices and five stocks closing with lower offers. The PE ratio of the market ended at 13.6, while the Main Market ended at 14.8 times 2019 earnings.
In the Main Market, Barita Investments closed $2.50 lower to $51, in trading 9,396,440 shares, Berger Paints shed 40 cents to end at $11.60, with an exchange of 2,766 shares, Caribbean Cement ended at a 52 weeks’ low of $44.20, with a loss of 80 cents in swapping 74,103 shares, but traded as low as $35 during the trading session. Carreras closed at a 52 weeks’ low of $6.32, after falling 63 cents and exchanging 184,370 shares. Eppley declined by $3.40 to $10.10, with 3,745 units changing hands. Grace Kennedy gained 99 cents to settle at $58.99, in transferring 100,972 shares, Jamaica Broilers closed 99 cents higher trading 609,496 shares and closed at $24.99. Jamaica Producers ended at a 52 weeks’ low of $16.50, with a loss of $1.50 after swapping 16,737 units, Kingston Wharves slid to $43.60, after falling $2.40 trading 120,800 shares, Mayberry Investments lost 49 cents to end at a 52 weeks’ low of $6.01 exchanging 9,610 units. Mayberry Jamaican Equities closed $1.92 lower to end at a 52 weeks’ low of $6.02, in swapping 25,300 shares, MPC Caribbean Clean Energy closed at $147, with a loss of $1 transferring 1,000 units and NCB Financial soared $18 to $168, with 260,174 shares changing hands. 138 Student Living closed $1.49 lower to $4.01 in trading 1,000 units, PanJam Investment ended the day at $79, with gains of $1 after transferring 574,020 shares, Portland JSX ended 46 cents lower to settle at $7.80, in swapping 25,000 units. Proven Investments shed 50 cents to finish at $39.50, after trading 13,736 stock units, Sagicor Group gained 50 cents to end at $46, in transferring 531,967 shares, Scotia Group closed at $46, after losing 82 cents in swapping 354,456 units. Seprod sustained a loss of $5.50 trading 40,228 stock units and closed at $35, Stanley Motta shed 80 cents to end at $4.20, with an exchange of 2,000 units, Sterling Investments lost 30 cents to finish at a 52 weeks’ low of $2.60, with 57,525 shares changing hands. Supreme Ventures closed at a 52 weeks’ low of $13.90, after losing $2.10 transferring 1,506,851 shares, Sygnus Credit Investments closed at $18.25, with gains of $1 swapping 42,680 stock units and Victoria Mutual Investments ended 30 cents lower to settle at $7, in trading 408,034 shares.
Trading in the US dollar market ended with 84,447 units for US$17,518. The US dollar market gained 0.08 points to close at 207.90. First Rock gained 1 cent to close at 10 US cents trading 12,612 units, Margaritaville closed at 24.1 US cents, with gains of 4.6 cents in exchanging 649 units. Proven Investments closed with gains of 0.8 of a cent after transferring 47,064 shares at 28 US cents and Sygnus Credit Investments finished at 13 US cents, losing 1 cent with 24,122 units changing hands.
