Gains for JSE Main & Junior markets


Trading closed Tuesday on the Jamaica Stock Exchange with a notable rise in the volume and value of stocks exchanged, compared to Monday, resulting in the major indices of the Main Market rising, with the Junior Market index joining in the rally, but the JSE USD Market slipped. At the end of trading, winning stocks overpowered losers nearly two to one with prices of 52 shares rising, 28 declining and 30 remaining firm.

At the close of the market, the JSE Combined Market Index climbed 1,435.91 points to 359,066.64, the All Jamaican Composite Index rallied 2,571.51 points to close at 418,776.33, the JSE Main Index popped 1,396.20 points to wrap up trading at 352,696.97, the Junior Market Index rose 14.06 points to 3,042.75 and the JSE USD Market Index fell 2.05 points to conclude trading at 229.79.
At the close of trading, 29,332,895 shares were exchanged in all three markets, up from 19,118,830 units on Monday, with the value of stocks traded on the Junior and Main markets amounting to $145.55 million, up from $97.78 million on the previous day. The JSE USD market closed with an exchange of 472,335 shares for US$28,952, up from 236,718 units at US$11,905 on Monday.
In Main Market activity, Sagicor Select Financial Fund led trading with 2.74 million shares, followed by Transjamaican Highway, which ended with 2.50 million stocks and Wigton Energy, with 1.52 million units.
In Junior Market trading, Kintyre Holdings led with 13.11 million shares, followed by Woodcats International with 2.02 million stocks and Stationery and Office Supplies with 1.16 million units.
In the preference share segment, Productive Business Solutions 10.5% fell $70 to finish at $1,130 and Sygnus Credit Investments C10.5% rallied $12.99 and ended at $106.
