Trading closed on Wednesday on the Jamaica Stock Exchange with a rise in the volume of stocks exchanged, with a lower value than on Tuesday, resulting in the major indices of the Main Market, the Junior Market index declining and the JSE USD Market rising. At the end of trading, prices of 31 shares rose, 42 declined and 35 remained firm.
At the close of the market, the JSE Combined Market Index skidded 1,122.88 points to 357,943.76, the All Jamaican Composite Index dropped 2,065.43 points to end at 416,710.90, the JSE Main Index declined by 972.24 points to close at 351,724.73, the Junior Market Index dropped 26.87 points to finish trading at 3,015.88 and the JSE USD Market Index rose 2.96 points to settle at 232.75.
At the close of trading, 46,938,917 shares were exchanged in all three markets, up from 29,332,895 units on Tuesday, with the value of stocks traded on the Junior and Main markets amounting to $125.5 million, down from $145.55 million on the preceding day. The JSE USD market closed with an exchange of 105,531 shares for US$5,448, down from, 472,335 units at US$28,952 on Tuesday.
In Main Market activity, JMMB 9.5% led with 13.74 million shares, followed by Transjamaican Highway with 3.68 million stocks and QWI Investments with 2.51 million units.
In Junior Market trading, Kintyre Holdings led with 17.57 million shares, followed by Woodcats International with 1.10 million stocks and One Great Studio with 651,528 units.
