Trading closed Tuesday on the Jamaica Stock Exchange after a rise in the volume and the value of stocks traded over Monday. Trading resulted in the major indices of all the markets falling, following prices of 37 shares rising, 47 declining and 28 remaining firm.
At the end of the market activity, the JSE Combined Market Index fell 3,267.31 points to 364,866.69, the All Jamaican Composite Index dropped by 4,081.78 points to end at 427,192.24, the JSE Main Index declined 3,074.35 points to wrap up trading at 359,243.33, the Junior Market Index dropped 45.67 points to end at 2,978.65 and the JSE USD Market Index dipped 11.00 points to end at 272.13.
At the close of trading, 26,062,999 shares were exchanged in all three markets, up from 24,019,784 units on Monday, with the value of stocks traded on the Junior and Main markets amounting to $246.14 million, up from $143.64 million on the previous day. Trading on the JSE USD market closed with an exchange of 2,316,305 shares for US$133,841 compared to 944,969 units at US$60,746 on Monday.
In Main Market activity, Transjamaican Highway led trading with 7.20 million shares, followed by JMMB Group with 1.35 million stocks and Jamaica Producers with 1.17 million units.
In Junior Market trading, Lasco Financial led with 1.93 million shares, followed by Image Plus with 1.36 million stocks and Atlantic Hardware with 1.10 million units.
In Main Market ordinary share movements, among the top winners, Carreras rallied $2.40 in closing at $31.00, Seprod rose $1.50 to $75.00, NCB Financial gained $1.49 to finish at $74.50, Jamaica Producers popped 95 cents and ended at $22.95 and Scotia Group increased 85 cents to end at $58.00.
Among the top losers, Eppley Caribbean Property Fund dropped $2.50 to close at $42.00, GraceKennedy shed $2 and ended at $74.00, Pan Jamaica lost $1.80 to $43.20, Proven Investments fell $1.53 to close at $8.96, First Rock Real Estate slipped 80 cents to $7.10 1,000 shares changing hands and Mayberry Group declined 77 cents in closing at $5.21.
In the preference share segment, Productive Business Solutions 10.5% gained $50 and closed at $1,150.
In the Junior Market, among the top winners, Knutsford Express gained 62 cents to finish at $8.24, Honey Bun rose 37 cents to end at $5.92, Caribbean Cream advanced 20 cents in closing at $2.00, Express Catering rallied 20 cents to close at $2.38 and Caribbean Flavours increased 18 cents to $1.19.
Among the top losers, Cargo Handlers shed $2.25 in closing at $16.00, Dolphin Cove fell $1.78 to $12.32, Caribbean Assurance Brokers declined 34 cents to end at $1.00, Lasco Financial dipped 25 cents and ended at $1.85 and Lumber Depot slipped 13 cents to close at $2.55.
