Trading closed Wednesday on the Jamaica Stock Exchange after a slight fall in the volume of stocks traded, with a lower value than on Tuesday. Trading resulted in major indices of all three markets rising, following winning stocks outpacing losers by a wide margin and ending with the prices of 49 stocks rising, 30 declining and 28 remaining firm.
At the end of the market activity, the JSE Combined Market Index rallied 1,699.56 points to close at 366,566.25, the index measures the movements of all the Jamaican based stocks, the All Jamaican Composite Index climbed by a robust 2,258.99 points to conclude trading at 429,451.23, the JSE Main Index increased by 1,663.45 points to finish at 360,906.78, the Junior Market Index rallied 15.20 points to 2,993.85 and the JSE USD Market Index popped 1.93 points to 274.06.
At the close of trading, 25,840,115 shares were exchanged in all three markets, down moderately from 26,062,999 units on Tuesday, with the value of stocks traded on the Junior and Main markets amounted to $155.54 million, down from $246.14 million on the previous day. Trading on the JSE USD market closed with a big drop in the number of shares exchanged of just 196,825 shares for US$13,167 compared to 2,316,305 units at US$133,841 on Tuesday.
In Main Market activity, Transjamaican Highway led with 6.25 million shares, followed by Wigton Energy with 2.98 million stocks and Tropical Battery with 1.15 million units.
In Junior Market trading, Derrimon Trading led with 2.84 million shares, followed by MFS Capital Partners with 2.83 million stocks and Fosrich with 1.61 million units.
In the Main Market ordinary share movements, the five top winners are, Eppley Caribbean Property Fund, rallying $2.50 to $44.50, West Indies Petroleum, climbing 99 cents to close trading at $9.49, Quantas Advantage gained 75 cents to end at $15.05, Mayberry Group rallied 74 cents in closing at $5.95 and Berger Paints rose 60 cents to close at $5.60.
Among the top losers, Jamaica Producers fell $1.92 to close at $21.03, Sagicor Group declined $1 to finish at $37.50, Sygnus Real Estate Finance shed 57 cents and ended at $9.42, Barita Investments dropped 55 cents to $67.70 and GraceKennedy lost 50 cents to finish at $73.50.
In the preference segment, 138 Student Living preference share advanced $10 to end at $190.
In the Junior Market, among the top winners, Access Financial climbed $2.25 to end at $19.74, Cargo Handlers rallied $1.99 in closing at $17.99, Caribbean Assurance Brokers increased 32 cents to close at $1.32, Blue Power climbed 20 cents and ended at $3.33 and Iron Rock Insurance rose 18 cents to $2.09. Among the top losers, Dolphin Cove declined $1.30 to $11.02, Lasco Financial shed 23 cents to close at $1.62, Image Plus dropped 19 cents in closing at $1.06, Lumber Depot slipped 9 cents and ended at $2.46 39,621 shares changing hands and Future Energy dipped 9 cents to finish at $3.51.
